Need some insight: 7mm rem mag powders

Starting shooting/reloading for my 7mm rem mag last year and I am shooting 175gr Berger elite hunters powered with 65 gr of re22, pushing them at about 2850 FPS. For me the re22 is too temperature sensitive and am seeing mixed results, I can shoot anywhere from -30c to +30c. At a certain temperature I am getting awesome accuracy but speeds change to much from there.

originally planned on going with h1000 but can not find h1000 powder anywhere and no one has any on its way.

so the next powder I wanted to try would be H4831sc. Just trying to see if anyone has any info for me going forward. I would like to speed it up a bit try and get to the 3000fps range and if I have to I’d drop a size and try 168 gr bullets.

thanks for any info

I never had much issue with re 22 but I have also ran re 7 with success but im not going for super groups just hunting so I wasn't scrutinizing much either.

If I could always hunt in the same temp range re22 would be great. Just noticing FPS changes in different temps. Trying to stretch out for long range hunting. Would like to be confident at the 500-800 yard range!

I've shot R22 from the 40's to over 100 and never saw any noticeable temp sensitivities. You could try R23 which is supposed to be less temp sensitive. I have some but haven't tried it yet. Maybe Retumbo, although I never had great results with it myself. H1000 is unobtainium but would probably be a good one to try if you can score some.
Short cut will work but I doubt you'll see 3k.

Your speeds seem slow with the 175gr Bergers and RL22. My 7mag shoots 175gr Partitions at 2960-2970 with 62.5gr of RL22. But if you want some extra speed and extreme accuracy I'd definitely wait until you can find some H1000 to play around with. The 168gr Classic Hunters shoot one hole groups at 100 in my rifle, but it took a lot of experimenting with seating depth to get that.

Retumbo will give you more speed, but I never could get anything anywhere near as accurate as with the H1000.

R26 has worked for me from 70 down to 30 with no issue. Shooting 160 nosler partitions - get speeds 2940 to + 3000 with good accuracy.

Don’t have any experience with 7 mag, but I’ve heard that accurate magpro is supposed to be a hell of a powder for that caliber too. Also cheaper than most of the other options above and American made if I remember correctly.

Don't have a 7 Rem mag but I have it's European near twin the 7mm Blaser mag and RL26 or N565 will generally be your two best performers. The sucky part to that is they are also two powders that are some of the hardest to find.

H4831sc is a good powder and very temp stable. It'll work but is a little on the fast side so the fill ratio won't be the best and you may see pressure before the velocity gets up to what you want so I'd keep an eye out for pressure signs.

IMR7977 is supposed to be very similar to H1000 I don't know how available it is but if you run across any I'd snatch it up because it should be another that would be a good choice.

I’ll have a look at the IMR7977 and see how they compare

IMR7977 is supposed to be equivalent to H1000, IMR8133 is more relative to Retumbo. I had really good luck with accuracy and temp stability of H1000, and am currently testing H4831SC. Both have given me above 3k FPS and sub MOA accuracy with 168 VLD's.

Had a lot of good luck w/Retumbo with 160 partitions in a tikka and 168 VLD'S in a sendero and winchester's. Sendero/Win w/168's were around 3000-3050fps range, sendero shoots them 1/2" and win shot them 3/4" and pretty much identical load just dont recall it off top of my head. FWOW i'd avoid imr4831, it's all i could find when i started loading several years ago and velocity was very slow.
