From NMWF.
Land Transfers: The NMWF has pledged to oppose HB78, sponsored by Rep. Miguel Garcia of Albuquerque. The bill calls for transferring three wildlife management areas in Rio Arriba County -- the Sargent, Humphries and Rio Chama -- to the Tierra Amarilla Land Grant. In recent letters to Governor Lujan Grisham and other state officials, NMWF emphasized that the wildlife areas were purchased using federal funds raised by taxes on sportspersons. Transferring the properties would endanger future federal wildlife funding for the state and deprive New Mexicans statewide of precious hunting, fishing and recreational opportunities.

Hopefully this doesn’t get any traction. I spend a lot of time in these WMAs and they are all three very important habitat, key breeding and winter range, as well as some great fishing. Everyone in the state should be concerned that an elected official is advocating taking them out of public hands.

Thanks for flagging this. Wow...so disappointing we are having to fight on so many fronts.

Looks like this is resurrected almost yearly and fails. Let's hope it fails again this year.
