Me and a buddy scored landowner tags for 53 in NM. We are thinking of going in early December.

couple questions for this unit,

1) is this a migration unit?
2) better time to go that’s late season?
3) any other tips?

be happy to give out pointers in Idaho.

Good deal! Unit wide tags or are you limited to the particular property? I hunted 53 last year and scored on a small 5x5 on the last day of first rifle in one of the wilderness areas. From what I have read, this unit does not have a true migration like the northern states do because of the snow or lack thereof. My bull on 10/21 I think it was at 11,400k. Hopefully someone who lives in the area can chime in. Best of luck! It's a beautiful place to be!

Tough unit for sure. I got into very few elk when I hunted it in 2010. I managed to kill a cow which I was happy to put in my freezer. This was in September. December they will migrate down if there is mucho snow up high.
