I was wanting to apply my son for a New Mexico youth any weapon tag due mostly to the fact he can hunt in August before school starts. With the new rules, not assigning ranches, Do you think that the public land would be hammered too hard to give a twelve year old a decent hunt? Or would it be better to save up a couple more years to hunt some private?

I think its gonna be pretty hammered but there's a ton of antelope I'd give it a try plus it never hurts to ask land owners for permission they might let you on for free?

If you look at the units some have been split and they really aren’t giving out many public land tags per unit . I think the hardest part of it will be drawing the tag. I’d go for it.
