I already posted a bit ago, but thought I'd start a new post since I've narrowed down what muzzleloader I want to a 2 or 3. What are all your thoughts on the CVA Optima and Traditions Buckstalker? It has to be Western legal but each of these either has versions with an open breach or you can convert them. I'll only shoot about 125 yrds max with open sights but would like a gun I could shoot a little over 200 if i go to another state that allows scopes.

Last questions; CVA and Traditions offer barrels with Nitride barrels. Does this really help with corrosion over the SS barrels? .. . especially as it concerns muzzleloader and the interior of the barrel?

I have never shot either of those muzzleloaders unfortunately. However, CVA Optima's are pretty widely known as great muzzleloaders.

We shoot nothing but Traditions G4 Ultralights the past handful of years. Nitride will clean easier and foul less. Search RS and you will find a post about SS vs Nitride.

We shoot the G4s for their light weight.
