Why are you letting the 300 WM go? That would help decide on which caliber.

I had a custom 280 AI built with a 24” Bartlein barrel and it shoots 2” at 300 yards if I do my part and launches the 150gr Accubonds out the tube at 2960 FPS with single digit SD and 4831SC powder. Haven’t had it out further yet but I know it’ll produce.

If you need low recoil and big game capability, I’d look hard at a 280 AI.

Its a great shooter but with a 26" barrel and DM and all that jazz ,its just a bit much for hunting in the mountains. It would be a great long range rig ,but I don't have the skills to do that rifle justice. Ive looked at the 280ai and am worried about finding factory ammunition on the shelf.

I am picking up a .270 wsm for elk. I have a 7mm-08 and .308 that both work, but I use lead-free bullets, so I like the idea of short action and high velocity the .270 WSM provides.

I think the 7mm-08 has got to be the most versatile cartridge out there. Load it heavy or light. Fast or slow. Its recoil is manageable but still big enough to take down anything.

I started processing elk myself and was shocked at the amount of lead in the meat. With 2 young daughters that love elk, I opted to avoid feeding them lead. I have taken elk/deer with no issues with GMX bullets so far. Just looking to expand my effective range.

Lead free makes it easy. 120 TTSX out of the 7mm08.

I was dead set on getting a 270wsm for the same reasons, but ended up getting a 300wsm since I already have a 270win. Imo, the 300 will do everything the 270 will but do it better.
