OK guys, sold my 7RM as (in my opinion) I don't really gain a whole lot over my T3 270 within reasonable hunting distances (<600), so now I'm looking to add another rifle to the stable. I'm kind of a tikka wh0re so I wouldn't mind adding another, been thinking about a superlite in either 6.5 CM or 7-08 as another deer/antelope rig that would be semi-cheap to shoot. Realistically there isn't anything they could do that my 270 couldn't, but I like rifles so why the hell not. Other thought would be to buy a doner Tikka and build a 25-06. I've thought about going the other directing with a 300 WSM but would like to be able to shoot said new rifle a bit and not get hammered with recoil (smaller guy). So what would you do?

Appreciate any input!

I just picked up a lightly used 25-06 and have to say so far I am enjoying it. Now if I can just find some Accubonds or partitions for hunting season I’ll be set to start in on some reloads. This was not a need at all but I wanted something different and seems to compliment some of my larger cartridges nicely. Fun to shoot but still packs a punch on game.

With ammo availability the way it is I would buy a 308 or 223. You can find ammo for these at a pretty reasonable price and they both can be used for hunting purposes. Plus they both have great barrel life so you can shoot the hell out of it

I’d buy a .308 win for ammo availability and the option for bigger grain bullet. .270 win and .308 win covers a lot of options imho. Just buy em all you can never have too many 😂.

I have a 6.5 cm and love it. If you are concerned about recoil the 6.5 cm would be a great choice.

I haven't had much trouble finding ammo online. You can find premium hunting ammo as well as cheap stuff to burn at the range. I like using ammoseek.com to find ammo. Any gun store I go to in my area usually only has 1 option for ammo.

You like your tikka? You’ll really like it with an AG stock and a drop in barrel. Maybe a 6.8 western or 6.5 prc.

You have the 270, and don’t like to be kicked. I think 308 would be a good choice. Easy to find a lot of ammo to shoot.

Just don't think within 600 yards the "juice is worth the squeeze" in terms of bang-flops.

Granted, momma griz bearing down and that 300 WSM looks pretty good lol.

Lots of votes here for Ole 308 so may consider that route.

Get a donor tikka and build a 243 AI.

1-8 twist with heavy for caliber bullets. Low recoil, short action and very effective.

Sounds like, maybe, OP doesn't reload so I'd look at either a 6 or 6.5 Creedmoor both has good factory ammo support.

If by chance you do reload I'd look at either a 6-284, 25-284, or 6.5-284. I've never been that big of a 25cal fan but a 25-284 shooting the Berger 133's would make for a pretty sweet deer/antelope setup on a Tikka build.

Yep I do reload so any/all are on the table from an ammo perspective. That 25-284 would be a slick little rig I reckon.
