That is pure speculation on my part. It happened in 2008 when gas spiked, but they were building trucks non stop back then.
We aren’t anywhere close to 2008. In 2008 the manufacturers were fighting for market share, producing huge amounts of surplus vehicles and whoring them to rental companies for sometimes half of msrp. A 50k msrp for 30k. The rental companies had an absolute racket going. Rent them for 6 months and sell them for more than they paid for them!

Then 2008 hit and gas prices went up and those 1000s of extra trucks sat. I remember current model year expeditions running through the auction for $15,000. I also remember used Prius wholesaling for 26000, they had a msrp around 20000 back then! In 2022 most dealers have 10% of what they had then. Is the market going to adjust? Yep…is it going to crash? Not a chance! My estimation is October, but don’t expect dealers to be begging you to buy a car!

F150 and tundra literally have nearly the same specs towing and payload..

So if you're buying an f150, you're basically buying a ranger.. got it.

My ‘21 F150 has a payload of 1962 lbs. I don’t think Toyota makes a Tundra that has more than 1400ish lbs of payload. I wish they did because I would have bought a tundra instead. I’ve owned a ‘87 pickup, ‘97 and ‘98 4Runners, ‘99 Tacoma, and two 2005 Tundra’s (still have my ‘05 double cab).

That being said I’m super happy with my F150 so far. Only question is how reliable will it be and how long will it last.

If you go with the F150, don't get the automatic tailgate option; it's a real piece of shit and I hear breaks regularly (my 1st time through). Mine has 33k miles and the actuator has broken so you can't even use the tailgate. Here's my temporary solution till I get the $70 part in 10 days. Pretty sweet for a $65k truck. All you do is take the back panel off and secure about a 6" stick to the rods and then you just reach in and rotate it yourself.

That would really suck with a Bakflip tonneau cover as the tail gate has to be dropped to open it. With the cover on it couldn’t be accessed without some pry bar work.

Are these crew cabs? I remember Toyota advertising big payload when the new tundra came out but it was a weird configuration. My F150 is a crew cab, 4x4, and not a barebones trim. Every crew cab tundra I’ve seen is in the 1400 range.

Unfortunately, real world door stickers haven't been close to any of those numbers. I frequent the tundra forum daily as I am looking to buy one. The highest anyone has seen is around 1,550 for payload. SR 2wd I think it was.

Same here. Most crew cabs posted on the forum have been 1,300 to 1,400ish.

Was at the Ford Repair Department at our local dealer dealing with a company truck. Lady behind the counter said to not buy a new truck from the last two years as they are already having problems from sitting too long, messed up assembly and chip issues. We were dealing with a brand new F150 that the power windows stopped working. Has 3000 miles on it. Buyer beware. Not sure if I put alot of stock into what she said, but a interesting data point at least.

That's a fully loaded crewmax with a 6.5' bed from Toyotas website.

Yeah, that isnt accurate unfortunately. At least not from the pages and pages of owners posting on the Tundra forum. CrewMax 4x4 will be right around 1,400. The one I looked at my local dealer was 1,410 i think. Short bed as well.
Owner's manual is a bit more accurate:

2wd DC SR5 for reference:

Here’s a Tundra similar to my F150 (both 4x4, 6.5 ft bed etc) and payload is 1344 vs my F150 at 1962. Gotta compare door stickers. My 2005 tundra is around 1450 so I’m a bit disappointed with the new Tundra.

However if this Ford turns into a turd I’ll get rid of it and get the new gen Tundra.

I have heard this exact same thing from a Ford dealer. Anything post 2020 is going to be a big gamble on reliability. Some companies are finally getting production issues straightened out but still have issues.
Also most of the 2020 models built in 2019 and early 2020 pre pandemic are fine.

GMC or Chevrolet for me. Have had great luck with them for the past 25 years.

I've been a big Ford guy for a long time and have had great luck with them. However, I'm currently driving a 2020 Ram 1500 with the ecodiesel. It's been a great truck. Very happy with it after a sensor issue when I first bought it. I've got 65K miles and am very pleased.

Ford coming out with their new "Very Gay Raptor" is probably about to hurt their market share a lot in the US.
