I'm booked for a Sept 2021 hunt... if the border opens up. I know the Newfoundland Caribou at not skittish at all. You can get within 30' of them, no problem. Not 30 yards, but 30 feet!

I was planning on my 6.5creedmoor, with fancy scope.... But now I'm 2nd guessing, probably better off with open sights.

When I was up there Moose hunting, we saw 2 Caribou, and literally could have walked up on them, and touched them.

How did you guys take your Caribou in Newfoundland?

Don't ditch the scope. You may be able to get within bow range, but what if you can't. I am presuming the terrain is more open than dense brush.

50-100 yard shot with the creedmoor with do the job.

Or just take your bow.

Good luck.

I did get my Caribou. The outfitter glassed him from a mile away. and we slowly made our way to the area. It was wide open terrain, not the typical NL bogs.
400 yards away, the Caribou spotted us. at 350 yards I didn't want to take any chances as it was the only Caribou in the entire area. There was a nasty cross wind. I knew I could shoot 350 yards, but The wind had me worried. I never shot wind before. I aimed for his head, figuring the wind would have me in the vitals. Perfect shot into the neck & off side shoulder. I caught the spine, or hydro shocked it enough he wasn't going anywhere. He was still kicking around, so we had to walk up for a finishing shot. sun was out, so I was concerned about the heat, but He was at the butcher by end of day.
