NM Unit 6C black bears

Headed that way in October with a buddy to help him with a muzzleloader elk hunt on the north side of the caldera. Thought about picking up an OTC black bear tag in case the opportunity presents itself.

How thick are the black bears in this unit, specifically in the Santa Fe National Forest?

Definitely bears, thick not sure about that but I see them regularly up that way.
