Same idea as the south east post. Whos about that life? Anyone want to do a death hike this summer on the trails in northern PA? Black Forest loop is long, I hear good things about it. North Country trail Allegheny National Forest section is decent too.

I spend a lot of time up in the area - the Quehanna Trail loop is almost twice as long and a bit more diverse, plus you'll see a lot more elk if you're into that. You should see far less people on this one as well. The Donut Hole loop is also about as long and rugged/remote.

My son and I are planning on doing the Black Forest trail May 22. 1 long day- we shall see. We have done the STS in 3 days a couple of times. Always looking for a challenge to keep me motivated for hunting season! Anyone is welcome to join us!

I did the Black Forest trail on 3/19 and 3/20 this year. It was still pretty icy and snowy, but it was a pretty tough two day hike. I've done the STS in four days and I will warn you that the BFT is harder. Good luck and have fun.

Are you planning on running it? I did it in 2 days last summer. That would make for one long day.

No running, just a long day of hiking. I have the guide book and trail map. The nice thing about a loop is we can cut it short if we have to. I'm not sure if it will be tougher physically or mentally. 16 or 17 hours of hiking is a long time to get in your own head!

40couple miles and over 8000 elevation gained is a ambitious day! That neighborhood is steep as well! Report back and let us know how it goes.

I would be interested in a weekender. Pick a date and see who it suits Beast!

Yeah it’s nice to have the option to cut it short. I’m probably goi g to do it again some time this year. Good luck.

Today was the day! My son and I left the truck at 4:45 AM, temps in the 80's made it tough. BFT did not disappoint, rocky, steep ascents and descents. Finished at 8:45 PM. All 43 plus miles!
