NY moose hunting

I’ve heard rumors of moose hunting possibly coming to NY. Apparently a couple years ago the DEC was doing population surveys. I haven’t heard much else about it since then. Anyone have any inside info?

Not happening. The Moose venture over from Vermont, (north of Albany) and it's far & few between. Read the NY DEC website.

I guess I expected that. I’m not seeing much on the website besides that moose hunting is illegal. Maybe I missed it

They may have originally come over from Vermont or down from Canada, but they are permanent residents now. That's not to say there will ever be enough to support a season, but who knows. The population sure seems to be expanding in the 'Daks.

We have a pretty good population around our hunting camp. Prob about as many moose as deer.
