I am not sure if one receipt would be Suffern to convince a judge that the mileage was misrepresented let alone intentionally
This type of crime is heavily investigated. Whatever state you are in, contact the State police or highway patrol. Sometimes the department of motor vehicles does the investigations.

Regardless, you are probably screwed. The people who do that generally create a fictitious account, provide burner numbers and fake names. To preserve anything, SCREENSHOT your entire conversation with them and the ad they placed.

I've dealt with similar stuff for years and you are really unprotected by anything.
Yes, I have a case open with the DoT. He confirmed that the odometer reading is incorrect and is looking into the case. The fraud specialist also shared my suspicions that it is false name on the account.

Sorry...

To make you feel better...I've dealt with people who have purchased relatively new vehicles that end up being a stolen vehicle that is VIN switched. It is super super rare. But tragic. Insurance doesn't cover anything and the person who generally sells the vehicle is 2nd or 3rd person to sell it. Some of them even went through and were sold by dealerships.

Those people never recover their money.
