Here we go just a couple weeks till rifle season opens here in Tennessee. Two rifles are the finalists. What would you choose? Personally I prefer the more compact 22” barrel of the .270 but the 6.5 Creedmoor is a shooter.

Tikka T3X Forest .270 22” barrel Leupold VX5HD 3-15x44 Firedot reticle

Tikka T3X 6.5 Creedmoor 24” barrel Leupold VX6HD 3-18x44 TMOA reticle

What would you grab to head out the door?

The one that is shooting the most accurate, with the ammo you have, from the positions you will hunt with, at multiple distances. It would be a fun range trip to test.

Both have been shot from bench at 100 yards about 50-60 rounds. Both rifles will be hunted out of box blinds with the windows being a steady rest.

I have the same issue. I have a T3X 270 Superlite and a 6.5 Creedmoor T3X in the new Wideland model which are both new to me this year. I had them out today and with the 270 and Barnes 130gr TTSX factory ammo I was able to shoot a 3/4” group at 200 yards. Between the way it shot and it being a pound less in weight scoped I think I’m taking it out this year instead of the creed. From a stand the 22” barrel is more easy to swing as you also mentioned.

270s are so nostalgic and I'm a fan of short barrels. Im fighting the urge to cut my t3x 300wsm down to 20". Real wood and old cartridges are still cool.

I love the stock and accuracy of this T3X Forest in 270. I’ve found a factory load it really likes.

Since you've got loads for both that will handle deer, and assuming the 6.5 Creedmoor is the stainless version (it appears to be in the picture), choose based on weather forecast the night before. Bad weather/rain...go with the Creedmoor. Good weather/no rain...go .270. Then, whatever you kill with in the morning, use the other rifle in the afternoon.

So crunching numbers my 22” barrel .270 only has a 25 yard advantage to my 24” 6.5 Creedmoor when it comes to dropping below the 1,000 lbs of KE. I shoot the 143 grain ELD-X out of my 24” Creedmoor and 145 grain ELD-X out of my 22” 270. Honestly they are pretty much a tie except the 6.5 has less recoil , a higher sectional density and a higher BC.
