@RangerRick did you ever upgrade your setup? I just did a quick glance around and below is what I would do for your price point. Puts you only $50 over for a solid setup.

Scope
$750.00
Bino
$1,000.00
Spotter $ 1,800.00

Haven’t upgraded yet! But that is a perfect breakdown man! I’ve actually been looking at the maven binos. Definitely gonna check these out! Appreciate it.

What are your thoughts between the mavens 10x42 or the kowas? Obviously $400 more but performance and all things included?

Kowa Genesis Series PROMINAR XD Lens Binoculars, 10.5 x 44

I have not spent much time behind the Kowa's, but I am sure they are good bins. I know Doug at Camerland stand by them.

However, I am fond of maven so I would probably get the B1.2 10x42 or the B6 10x42 before I got the Kowa. The B1.2's are considerably smaller and have a larger fov, while the B6's have a larger exit pupil (will be better for low light) with a similar FOV as the kowa .

If you are willing to be patient, I would keep your eye on the classifieds on pick up one of the following around ~$700 ish range.
- Zeiss Conquest HD 10x42's
- Nikon HG 10x42's.
- Maven B2 9x42

RangerRick, the Kowa Genny 10.5X44 is spectacular. They are a bit on the heavy side, but I've had mine 4 years and its not even an issue. I use them now just to glass off a tripod since I got the Genny 8X33 for free handing while I'm on the move.

If the vast majority of your glassing will be with your binos, and you only need a scope to assess trophy quality, I'd say look at the little (28oz) KowaTSN-553/554. If you'll be using it to scan much, the TSN-773/774 would be a great choice. Good luck.

Appreciate it. I’ll check them out. Makes sense to spend some coin on binos since they get used so much.
