I'm looking at some new opportunities this year where glass and distance are going to be significant players. I'm much more accustomed to dark timbered hunts where you hear em before you see em. That being said I'm starting to get my game plan together and a critical part of that plan is making a list of locations to glass from on some scouting trips. Here's the questions:

For effective and productive glassing what is an optimal range? By the time the season gets closer I will have a solid (not alpha) spotter and tripod setup. I'm looking at some points in the area using a viewshed tool and I am identifying quite a few places where I can hit 2-3 high bowls from one glassing point. The farthest being approx 2.5 miles back. I am looking for a nice deer, but honestly it's a meat hunt for me. Will I have a productive session at that range or should I revaluate?
