I guess you guys know I have to build a frame now. And I have a perfectly good duplex. But who doesn't need a loaner, right?

A fix back east
Great job on these frames guys. Really stellar work.

I await the pack bag build along as that's something that's probably a bit closer to my skill level.

If you go back a page or two you can see Tartan's bag...he's already done with it!

All my material has arrived and I'll be frantically putting the pack together. Front zip with roll top lid and a snow collar. This will be a LARGE day pack for sure, but I think I will be happy with it.

5shot, what type of material are you using for a snow collar?

Edit: another dumb question: what are these "K-clips" I see talked about?

I found a coated 200D for the snow collar, so I will give it a try. The K Clips are from Kifaru and allow you to attach straps to tab loops, PALS, etc.

I've been hunting lately and checking back on this thread I can't believe my eyes! Great work here, never knew this could be accomplished. Very cool!

I have found that the G-Hooks don't stay put without tension. For my load lifter straps they fall out when you aren't wearing the pack, which can make putting the pack on a real PITA!. I'll be replacing them with the K-Clips.

Getting the pieces put together.

The bottom is done, with Looplocs on it for attaching a Grab-it, Cargo Panel or similar. I sewed webbing on the inside to re-enforce the stitching. Shouldn't have any pull out. There will be additional Looplocs and a couple 3 bar sliders sewn on the back seam to attach the bag to the frame and allow for attachment of compression straps if I need to put a pad on the bottom of the bag.

I also have the Roll Top and Snow Collar done. I stitched them together to make it easier to attach the two to the main body of the pack. The male buckles for the roll top will be stitched to the side panels.

The back panel is done, with Looplocs on the inside for attaching a hanging pocket, and a 3 Bar Slider with accompanying pocket to hang a water bladder.

The front is in process, but getting really close. I still have to attach the vertical webbing and tab loops. These will allow attachment of side mounted wing pockets and vertical compression straps. They will also secure the bag compression straps so that they aren't just dangling when open. Probably get this finished up tonight.

The sides will have mounting points for side pockets and additional points for doing a wing type pocket. They will also incorporate a bladder hose passage. I'll try and get at least one wing pocket done so I can use it as a rifle carrier, but don't know if I'll have time.

Looks great 5shot. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Took my pack out for quite a bow hike this weekend. Went to some public land that I've never been to before. Did a lot of walking and glassing. This was more of a scouting session for me than a hunt. I barely scratched the surface, but at least I'll know more for the next time I go.

20lb in the pack. 10 miles and +/- 1000ft of elevation in a day and a half. Everything worked flawlessly.

5shot, looking good. Keep the pack porn coming. A year ago when I was building a frame and a bag, my sewing skills were still very limited and I scoured the web to try to find a build like this. It simply did not exist. This will be an amazing find for that select few people in the world with the ambition and desire to tackle something like this.

tartan, dang man I just noticed you are in Keller. I live in Canton and work in Arlington and Fort Worth. What wma were you at? How are you liking those cutthroats so far? I let one of mine eat on the evening of the opener.

My skills are pretty novice...I just have a good machine and the knowledge of how to assemble the pieces.

That's awesome. Now I know where to go when I need some help :p

I haven't used the cutthroats on game yet, but I love them. No doubt they'll do what they need to when the time comes.

I was up in western OK (sandy sanders). Very new experience for me, coming from hunting the mountains of Pa. Kind of training for future western hunts. Awesome place, but unlike any whitetail hunting I've done before.

Great looking hog btw!
