Phone vs a camera for digiscoping?

Hey everyone. I am wondering if anyone has direct experience comparing a phone vs a camera for digiscoping? I am in the process of deciding if it is worth buying a adaptor for a Nikon d3500 so that my girlfriend can take some nice photos when we are scouting in the mountains and hopefully print them out when we get back. So I am basically wondering if that camera will get better quality photos with a spotting scope vs a newer iphone? Thanks
