Yes. Salt and sugar cured, air and oven dried to harden up the outside and some of it has a little smoke. It doubles as bait as well.

I always taste something at least once, so I tried the beluga stuff; I rated it right down there with liver. It would all be bait to me.

This morning at an alpine lake all to myself for two days, smoke was a little better this morning. trout didn't play much. Still a great backpack camp.
