Picked up a load of round balls

400+lbs worth! Out in the shop now cutting it into melting size pieces. Going to build a burner so I can melt it down outside and start pouring ingots.

Where did you find such a haul? And what did they used to be?

Good idea melting them down outside. You do not want a windy day (pulling away the heat) but a light breeze to remove the smell is always welcome!

It has been a while since I melted lead but thinking about starting up after getting a TC Hawken recently. WhT molds are you using (brand)?

Trade you some bear lard for some .570 roundballs if you have a mold.

How awesome is that! What was the rifle you were using? Newer in-line or older percussion/ flintlock?

No no, this was a trouble bear that was causing property damage. The warden sold him to me. He was so huge I didnt want him to go to waste so we met up, used my nephews .45cal S&W and put him down. Huge gorgeous hide, just trying to find a tanner to do the dirty work. Its frozen for now. Boiling the head today. I did get at least 50lbs of fat off him which I will render down into oil/lard.
