Just treated myself to a Plink fillet knife. Russell Green River Works blade with clam shell pressed handle. Very happy so far.1F361072-CA5D-41E5-A7AD-4D95964AF2AD.jpeg

Awesome thread. I've dabbled as well, mostly customizing handles on blanks, though a couple stock removal method out of old files too. Yes, I know... Pakimascus... I still like them, though have to watch for occasional cold shuts.

Most of the wood is either saved from the firewood pile, or from wood flooring samples. I just love seeing something take shape out of basically nothing. Filing a design into the spine is also a new thing I've started adding, and the recipients really seem to like.

Very good to see a collection of custom knives from many makers. There’s many differences between custom and production run. Just ask a maker sometime. The obvious being quality and individuality. I’m a blade smith as well. Forge and stock removal depending on each use of the tool for the order.

A few I’ve owned while I was working out the design I prefer to use. I’ve narrowed the collection down to the dozier Yukon pro skinner I bought from fort Henry and the mammoth ivory skinner I had Dan build for my hunting knives. The dozier freedom fighter is my pig hunting knife and the Phil Wilson is my primary filleting knife. The north arm filleting knife has boat duty when I need to fillet something at sea. The only thing missing is a larger ~9-10” Phil Wilson filleting knife as the 7” version I’ve got is a little small on some fish. I’ve emailed him regarding a larger model.

I won this in a muzzleloader tournament when I was ~8yo. I wish I could remember the maker's name, but he was a local guy in Southern California that would hand them out to podium finishers. Demascus steel, bronze guard and pommel, mule deer antler handle.
