500d cordura off of eBay. I will say mine seems a little more stiff and “crinkly” than some other 500d I’ve seen. Particularly when cold.

22” and 26” frames similar to the kifaru but with an HPG style yoke. Bags sized and designed similar to the kifaru tahr and reckoning.

Do any of you talented people use a pattern or just go off other packs you like?

Yep, what pods8 said. I'll say that these first two back involved a lot of ripping out of stitches. That said, the second went WAY better than the first. Looked better too. Just got a new Singer 403A that works like a dream. That will make it easier as my old Kenmore had some problems. I'll be having another pack out by summer Lord willing.

That frame looks great! Did you do anything specific to get the hip belt to curve in?

Nope. It would lay flat if not buckled. It takes a curved memory pretty quick though.

AI, how do you like your new 403A? Is it new or new to you? My wife has a Singer Simple that I used for making a sylpoly shelter. It has been having issues as I've made a few small projects like a cargo panel and a grabit. I don't think it is heavy duty enough to handle webbing etc. The bobbin seems to be hitting and bending the needle and it gets stuck in the down position. I am getting the itch to make a pack and frame but may need a heavier duty machine. Just don't want to break the bank. This is a great thread, it is giving me some inspiration. By the way, I stopped by Kifaru International today. Some great products there.....

Eagle_eye, the machine is new to me. They don't make these any more. The Singer 401A and 403A are often said to be the premier household sewing machines, with direct drives and all metal gears. So far I love it. The guy I got it from had it tuned up super nicely, so it is super smooth. I haven't done any big projects yet, but have gotten through a backlog of small things like hemming my pants. LOL. You can find nice ones for around $100 in the midwest.
