I just got my name on Buddy's list for a 62" Poison Dart longbow!

This will be my first custom bow and so I'm hoping some of you have pictures of your favorite woods? I'm torn between going exotic or using something closer to home. Buddy lives and has his shop in my hometown now after all. Has anyone used any CO native woods in the past?

He made Tom one with bookended juniper laminates, it was pretty stunning looking! Why don't you just go and visit him and pick something out?

I spent a couple hours at his shop last weekend but I still need to narrow it down a bit. Do you have a photo of the juniper laminates? I've thought about juniper, or oak or even aspen veneers, but it seems harder to find a good local riser wood.

No I don't, but Buddy or Tom might, but you could just Google Juniper Laminate and probably get a pretty good idea, I'm really partial to Mango Veneers on my Toelkes, might see if Buddy has any of that

I feel your pain, a guy can tie himself in knots with these wood choices, eh? Grin

At the end of the day, pick a strategy and go with it. I like your idea of Co woods, makes for a good story. Besides that, I got nuthin.

Update here, settled on cocobolo with sapwood on the riser, red cedar for the limb laminates and some elk antler accents from a nice shed I found last year. Here's the progression and finished product!

Absolutely love how it came out, the tip accents coming from the riser really tie it all together. Such a cool piece of cocobolo, I haven't seen many with the sapwood integrated. Buddy is a great dude building bows with his hands for the love of it. Its a bonus that he's now living/working out of my hometown Paonia, CO. Happy to call him a friend now.

Bow shoots great so far and feels insanely natural in the hand. Arrow build and tune starts soon!

I'd never heard of Poison Dart until I saw Tom Clum using one in his online course.

I know almost nothing of longbows but they are some of the nicer looking bow's I've seen in the pics!

Who is Tom Clum, never heard of him either. Is he like a bow maker or something?

I believe he owns RMS Gear in CO.

I'd never heard of him til Aron Snyder mentioned him on a bunch of kifarucast podcasts.

He has an online course geared at learning to shoot a stickbow that's been helpful to me so far.

Actually attending a seminar this weekend with him in Wisconsin so looking forward to getting some in person coaching/help.

Interesting thanks. Maybe I’ll check out that online seminar, I just shoot my bows, never had a lesson or read a book about it. I’m probably doing everything wrong lol.

Nothing wrong if you hut what you're aiming at haha. But his techniques have made me a lot more consistent and really help with longengevity of your shoulders.

Nice Dart dlee, I was lucky to pick one up used recently. Mine i think is zebra wood limbs with g10 riser and some sort of lichtenberg wood on the riser. it is a two peice. RMS has a one piece with similar effect on riser listed on their website. I love the G10, it provides just the right additional mass, and really seems to deaden the shot. I used photos from the previous owner. my photos were too big to load. Enjoy your new bow, I'm loving mine.
