I will try to make this as short as possible.
I was looking at a tent and it looked good, received good views as well. Something the Mrs would use if needed be. Only problem is it comes with fiberglass poles. I called a local place that does aluminum replacement poles. Sent them the Info on the tent and they said no problem we can do that.
One day later and after I placed the order on the tent , I get a email saying that it's not possible to do the conversion.
Well crap.. do you think that was just because they have limited knowledge or ???
I can't figure out why replacing the poles would be such a big deal..

Call these guys. Sometimes it is a confidence thing. I have bought a couple custom poles from these guys, and they seem to know what they are doing.

I would think it would be really easy if you have all the original poles, and they just need to copy from AL.
Things they would need to know:
1. Maximum bend rad. so they pick the correct tubing.
2. What kind of base connection is it so they put the correct tips on the poles.

I used tentpole tech. when I had a set of poles made for my mountainsmith LT and they where very helpful, without there knowledge I probably would have got the wrong material and had issues with it supporting the weight.

I am somewhat bewildered at the moment. This tent was not the top of the line but received good reviews.
In the description said fiberglass poles.
Well today the tent arrived and I planned on sending it back . I open the box and had to at least look at the tent.. and I don't know what happened but they have aluminum poles now.
I went back to look at the description of the place I bought it from and it's a different weight and now says aluminum poles..
So I guess I will give it a try and see how it goes..
Btw I failed to mention after some weird points my wife had I got this tent for $25. Brand new.

Curious what diameter and material you used for your mountainsmith poles...?

They recommended the .433 aluminum and they made the rear pole 3 piece and front pole 4 piece. I wanted them to break down short enough to fit in the stock stuff sack for the tent.
