i have a tikka superlite in 300wm. I have a tbac dominus in jail. The superlite will need to be threaded so to make it a little shorter I’m going to cut it down a little. I believe I’m going to cut to 21.5” which will give me room in front of the fluting.

I’m going to be runnijg 175gr LRX. I know I’m getting a little shorter than optimal on a magnum rifle and trying to figure out the best load for it. Is there a more optimal powder for shorter barrels? Faster burning?

I'd avoid the slower burning end of the spectrum but 4831 or 4350 burn rate would probably be good.

Keep in mind the barrel diameter at 21.5" on a factory tikka doesn't meet the minimum dimensions per TBAC guidelines for 9/16" threads and TBAC also states that 1/2"-28 threads are too small for .308 bores. Plenty of folks disregard this guideline but figured it was worth pointing out.

I have a short barreled magnum (22" 7mm WSM). I think H4831SC and H4350 are great for a variety of calibers but they have been great in my 300 WSM and 7mm WSM.

I used RL-17 and Hybrid 100V too with pretty good accuracy but switched to go to a more temp stable powder.

I can't confirm it but H1000 might be too slow. Its a good powder but probably too slow of a burn rate for a 21.5" 300 WM.

Good Luck

Are you dead set on that muzzle brake? Jim See was able to put one on my Superlite 300 WM without cutting the barrel down. Threads measure 9/16". Shot .46 MOA using 180 gr Interlocks and H4831 at 100 yards, not bad for "average" bullets that fit in the stock magazine.

Given that his "brake" is in jail, I'd say he's pretty set on it for life.
