I know a lot of people value rifles based on their function and utility. And they should. I do. But I also like pretty rifles; ones that are just lookers, ones that are lookers and for shooting on occasion, and ones that are functional and pretty.

Let's see your prettiest rifle.

Please don't show me a picture of your beat up Tikka unless that's all you have and you have no eye for aesthetics 😉

Here's my most treasured beauty. And my somewhat pretty and functional Tikka.

I only have a couple. But im still not afraid to use them.
This Sako L46 is my most prize possession.
Uncle imported the barrelled action around 1957. Dads best friend hand carved the stock.
It really the only thing I got from my pop's.
Still shoots the exact same load my Uncle developed in 58 into 1/4" groups.

Its a 222 Magnum and its hell on coyotes.

Couldn't imagine life without a few lookers on the shelf. I was very fortunate to spend my childhood at my grandads stock building bench, though I was young, my eyes and ears were always focused and curious.

This first is a custom is a .458wm that I inherited, my grandad built years ago for an African hunt. Iv owned it for 20+ years, and have only fired 2 rounds from it. The old steel but plate didn’t feel well on my boney shoulders, one day I’ll put a recoil pad on it

Next is another custom he built, off of a zg47, and chambered in .280 rem. Ignore the terrible finishing job, it was my first attempt at re finishing a stock years ago. I’ll re do it here some day. My dad took his first moose with this rifle back in the 60’s, when it was still a 7x57.

Next is my first ever hunting rifle. Built for me when I was 7, and took my first goat with it at 8. A hair over 6lbs, a Mauser 96 chambered in 6,5x55 AI.

Not a custom, but a looker non the less. Chambered in 9.5x57 (aka .375 rimless nitro express).

A couple stocks Iv built, the first was for my long past grandmothers pre 64 .375 h&h. The stock that was on it was far to short for me. Perfect candidate for a first stock build.

For my second build, my good friend had is long past dads Mauser 30-06 that he was wanting to fix up. A good candidate for built #2. 12 months later, this is how it turned out.

Build #3 is in the works. Having a light weight 6.5 prc built on a defiance anti action. It will have both a AG composites and a nice piece of wood in time to come.

Does the blank for that PRC say 1952?!

Also that #2 stock is beautiful. Love the grip cap and contour on the left side up just in front of the tang

Thank you!! Being a left hand shooter, I had problems shaping that right hand grip. Those ebony caps were the first times working with ebony, it was a learning curve.

The blank for the prc does say 1952, that was the year my grandad ordered it. It was intended for the mannlicher in my previous post, but he never got to it before he past

I’ll add a couple more lookers that I have.
A Lee Enfield .303 that my grandad built.

A Winchester model 54 in 30/06 thst my dad built

This is a custom single shot .22 that my grandad built for my dad in .1952. It has two different size stocks. It’s passed through every kid in the family since then. My 7 year old daughter currently owns and shoots it. I wonder how many grouse it’s taken in its life time.

I have two Featherweights, one in .30-06, the other .257; I have to resist the urge to gather up more of them

We have more than a few old beauties back home in our safes, but the first rifle I personally fell in love with was a Remington 700 that I saw when I was like 12 years old. I swore I would buy it one day, but the $1000 price tag kept me from doing that for a while. Once I graduated high school and started i college, I got a refund from the state to buy books and shit....and I didn’t buy books. This is the first thing I bought. Chambered only 7 mag and whenever I get to come home i always take Maggie out and play with her and shoot her. I grew up loving 700’s and still do, but I know Remington has real problems. Knock on wood, all the ones we have are tack drivers.
