I've grown up with the privilege of hunting on family-owned private land but I'm interested in having other options. I like public land hunting but don't like the crowds at times. I'm starting to look at private hunting leases, particularly in WY and MT, but was curious about what everyone's thoughts on the best resources for finding good deals. Obviously, there's plenty of online listings but doesn't seem like the best deals. What about local resources (local news, farm newsletters or associations, etc.)? I have a good network of army/hunting buddies that would probably be interested in a group lease. For western hunting, I have a personal general rule of 500-1000 acres per hunter as optimal (that can obviously vary) but I think using that rule as a baseline I can scale to a decent ranch size by pooling resources.
