I am gathering the parts for a new build. It will be used as on my back pack hunts for blacktail deer (120-150 pounds). I have a lightweight 700 clone on order from Defiance and will use and Edge tech Micky handle. It will be a 28 Nosler shooting copper mono’s as I live in CA.

I going to try my first Proof barrel and I am thinking a 26” 8 twist Sendero light and I will have a muzzle brake on it. It will save me 4 ounces which I can use if needed on my optic.

I don’t anticipate any long shot strings just your typical hunting scenarios 1 shot and possible follow up

Anyone using the Sendero light contour have any negative experiences.

Thanks
Mark

I'm doing a very similar build and will be going with a Proof sendero light profile barrel. It will be my first Proof barrel and will be a .264 22" 7.5 twist. Based on my research I don't think there will be any issues going with the sendero light vs the sendero. Keep us posted on how your build goes.

I would go Sendero. My buddy who chambers probably 40 Proofs a year thinks they are more forgiving and after owning both I have to agree.

I did a light in a 300 WM, at the same time he did one in a Sendero. Same reamer etc. In the end they both shot the same, the light was just much more finicky getting there. My next one was a Sendero and it was easy from the beginning.

Now it’s hard to base much off a couple barrels but he’s working with a pile of them every year and feels like the senderos are the better choice especially in the longer blanks.

Interesting comments from @ckleeves and @Ryan Avery. I trust your experience and will change my stock order to accommodate a Sendero. Thanks!

Agreed, based on the above comments I will go with the Sendero contour. I have had rifles that shoot every projectile great and others that are very fussy.

Thanks to those who commented

I’ve had a pile of Sendero lite bbls and have yet to see one not shoot. They have all shot better than 1/2 moa at extended distances

If you want more info. Call up companies like Redrock, Gunwerks or Precise rifle solutions. Ask them which ones shoot the best for them. The answer will be clear.

I’ve got a light on my 280ai and a full sendero on my 270wsm, both are 24 inch. No regrets going with the lite, I’d do it again if starting from scratch.

I’m not saying you can’t have a great shooting light. In fact I have one now and have been around/loaded for quite a few others. All I’m saying is if you take 100 Proofs there is going to be a few stubborn barrels in the bunch and the chances are much higher that those stubborn barrels are going to be lights. Like Ryan said, call a few of the guys that chamber a pile of them every year and see what they say.

building a shorty .308 and just ordered a SL 16.5" for the build. Going to be a dedicated suppressor gun for me and my son. I asked the same questions and went with the SL after talking with Proof at SHOT. They said the same thing...accuracy should be negligible if any and the extra weight savings (not much) was why I went with the SL.

Very reputable shop here in Texas that WONT use the Sendero LITE on large magnums.

On the other hand- I had a 7RUM 26" SL that shot well with everything I ran through it. The weight savings wouldn't be enough for me to compromise on a future build. Go with the Sendero and don't look back.

Which McM stock?

I was thinking The McMillan Game Hunter in Edge fill.

At FNAWS I handled a McMillan stock that Barbour Creek Precision will be selling.

I really liked the way it felt and will probably go that route if they get things finalized and rolling.
