I'm in the middle of editing a video I did on how to de bone an elk, but was curious if anyone still packs out full quarters?

Sure, as long as we can get the horses close. We will lash the antlers to legs to keep them from poking the stock.

It depends on the weather and how far I am to the truck if I de-bone.

I have NEVER, EVER put a whole elk in my truck.... always butcher on the spot.
Maybe I hunt too far from the truck...:)

My son is a big help tho

In archery season we like to de-bone when we can.
Sometimes we just do it back in camp.

But we ALWAYS do the 'gutless' method!

De boned. But if I have time and not too far from the trail head, I like quartering because I have not perfected the art of de boning and keeping the meat super clean. 90% of the time I'm de boning.

Gutless method on all of them, bone out most of it, with the exception of the upper leg bones sometimes. I may bring out the whole head if it's not to far.

Yep I do! If it is within a mile or 2 of the truck I will quarter. If further than I will debone. Quartering allows less meat to be wasted.

In my November cow hunts, I just half the elk and take them out like this...

Back when I did the 'horse thing..."

This cart takes no feed to carry an half an elk...

We do a little of everything. I packed out 3 bulls this year. One was quartered (1/4 mile from the bikes), one was deboned (8+ miles from the truck) and one was halved (ended up dying 100 yards from the bikes).
