Question for the left handed shotgunners

I am looking to buy a new auto loader sometime in the off season. I am left handed, but have always shot traditional RH shotguns in the past. For those fellow left handlers out there, do you shoot with a left handed shot gun, and did it make that big of a difference to overcome the reduced selection and added expense? Thanks!

I shoot LH and my firearms are LH whenever possible. Used to shoot RH guns but after shooting with LH guns I prefer them.

I have an AR-15, Savage Weather Warrior 30-06 bolt, Browning BAR MK3 30-06 Semi-auto, Hatsan Escort Magnum 12 gauge semi-auto all in LH. My 1911 pistols have ambi safety’s. Also have an Ithaca M37 pump that is bottom feed/bottom eject.

following - my son shoots left handed and I am wondering if I can just give him my right handed franchi affinity 3.5 or if I should find him a left handed version.

Yeah, it is tough to try to pull off using a right hand bolt gun. Rotator cuff problems leading to past surgeries has me shying away from O/U. Even made me switch from my .30-06 to a 6.5 CM a couple years back, lol.

Two procedures on my shooting shoulder this year, and I am now shooting my 30-06 rifles with muzzle brakes on them. Shotguns aren’t nearly as bad for some reason. I can do 200 rounds of 12 gauge, but 60 rounds of 30-06 wreak havoc on me. Probably because the shotguns fit me better. Going to shim/cast the new rifle (Browning) and see if that doesn’t help things.

WRT the LH guns, I’m very happy that I got them. Whatever you get your son, take the time to have the stock fitted for him.

Now if I could only find a LH AK-47….

Lefty guns have been tough to find on order. I have had a Tikka t3 lite in 308 on order from 5 months with nothing. Don't see it getting any better anytime soon

Upside to buying a quality left handed gun is that it will last. My super black eagle is 20 years old and handles everything from 3.5 duck loads to 1 ounce clay loads. There are a lot of options for 12 gauge, not so much for anything else in semi auto. I did buy a 20ga benelli on a steal, if you look around deals will pop up.

My dad is a lefty. The only gripe he has is the safety. We turned the safety around and is he happy. This was a benelli, not sure how easy it is on other makers but was very easy on his.

I've grown up my entire life shooting RH guns........shotguns, semi's, pumps, bolt, etc, without any issues that I know of. I've shot 2 elk a few times in the same round of shooting with bolt action rifles while standing shooting freehand. But for whatever reason, people always think I'm cycling the bolt with my right hand. That would be difficult. Using my left is easy and quick for getting right back on target.

I was in the same predicament years ago. Ended up going with a Beretta A300 and couldn't be happier. Switched the safety around, adjusted the stock, and it's fantastic.

I shoot LH with a right hand autoloader. No issues.
All my shotguns.. pumps & autoloaders are RH. I never even consider looking for a LH shotgun. Lol

That's weird that some LH shooters don't have trouble with RH guns. I had to pick up a lefty auto after trying one time with a righty; every shot put gas/powder in the ol' peepers. Good on you if you can pull it off, it was miserable for me.

My Super 90 is RH and I don’t have any issues. Switched the safety for convenience.

If you’re not opposed to pumps, find an Ithaca or Browning. They’re both bottom eject so naturally ambi.

Left hand shooter here, right handed left eye dominant. have always shot right handed guns. Recently started looking at left handed guns and they just felt weird to me. Kinda like writing with my off hand.

I shoot left handed and PREFER right handed bolt guns. I write right handed and can work that bolt with the right hand at a bench and whenever the forend is supported. Bought a left handed Bergara to try it out and don't like it, the biggest advantage I find is that i can SEE into the chamber when im shooting a right handed gun left handed, without too much messing around. This applies to anything with an ejection port on the right side. Super easy to see if everything is feeding properly and clearing misfeeds. I'm seriously considering having a custom rifle built that is left hand bolt and right hand eject so i can have the best of both worlds.

Benelli M2 lefty my son bought is quite nice. Personally, I'd go that route. His is a 20.

I’m a lefty, have always shot RH autoloader shotguns, switched the safety’s on them. Often thought about getting a left handed shotgun but have become so accustomed to loading the RH gun it would take some learning. Have a few LH bolt guns which are much easier for me to work the bolt. Over/unders are tough to find with a neutral cast, but I’ve got a 12 and 20 that fit me good.
