I like that background- an easy loader for sure.

Are those bighorns from a "hunted" population?

Yes they get hunted, but sparingly. There was one tag this past year in this unit and as many as 4 permits 3 years ago. Once they get this close to town, the hunting pressure decreases rapidly, they spend most of their time on one or two landowners and the fish hatchery. Between the difficulty hunters have in getting permission in the area, the fact that the sheep don't move down to the winter range until the season has been on for a month or 2, and that there are easier herds of sheep to hunt, these sheep know that they're pretty safe (although they do tend to walk into traffic unfortunately). My pics at the top were all within 80 yards on foot. It's all a matter of how you approach them, at one point I had 14 ewes and 3 rams bedded 25 yards away, and they could care less that I was sitting with them. Sheep are very good at evaluating threats.

Here is one from the hatchery. It has been a couple years. Tough to hide the background. Guess he was a scrapper.;)
