Hey guys,
Trying to decide on which stock to get for my Remington 700. Details below.

My rifle barrel is 20" long and from what I have seen from forums its diameter at the end of the barrel is like .850"-.860"

It is the barrel on the Remington 700 SPS AAC-SD if that helps you find the actual specs because I couldn't.

I called the stock manufacturer that makes the stock my rifle comes on, and they gave me these dimensions so you can compare it to the H-S Precisions spec sheets.

At the very beginning of the barrel channel, right next to the receiver. The opening of the barrel channel is 1.321" wide
At the very end of the barrel channel at the end of the stock the width measures .972"

Here are the two different stocks I am looking at getting.

The tan one I have been told I will need to have it sanded down in order to fit and that would be ideal if I wanted a dollar bill type fit.
-Designed for .750" muzzle diameter at 24"

The gray one I have been told will be bigger than needed but I am curious if it will be big enough that it will look bad or if it will be so miniscule in the hundred or thousands of an inch that it won't matter?
-Designed for .900" muzzle diameter at 24"

Any help is appreciated!

Take the channel width minus the barrel diameter and divide by two. This will be your clearance. The acceptable limit is all you. For a field gun, a dollar bill is not enough IMO. anything beyond contact under your shooting conditions is simply clearance and no longer affecting accuracy, just looks.
