Rifle scabbard forward or back on saddle?

I just thought of another reason that I carry mine on the right side, butt forward. It gets the horse used to activity around his head. I have killed a number of elk while standing or kneeling in front of the horse. They don't seem to react to the shot as much. By having the butt in the front it positions you to retrieve the rifle and shoot without a donnybrook.
