Fellas,

To caveat off earlier discussion I mentioned touching base with Paul over at FHF Gear. Just got ane mail back from him and he would like ideas on how he may be of help in creating a better, simplified product.

Based on what is available, not many products fit my exact needs and have extra features. The TacOps type stuff comes with a zippered pouch, unnecessary for my use.

I've came up with a few criteria to get this started:
Lightweight, Cordura type material, likely the same as what he uses for his chest rigs.
7-9 shot capacity; with perhaps different elastic shell sizes for varying round diameters.
Flip-over shell cover with velcro
Elastic lace up system so theyc an be fairly generic for most stock types.

Optional:
Cheek pad?
Zippered Pouch?

So considering the above, what would you like to see?

Eagle makes theirs with a velcro strap system and it fits nearly any sporting rifle stock, and has a raised cheek pad for proper cheek weld. maybe it could be similar to that? The Eagle one I have has a zippered pouch which I retrofitted with a red-tac shell card on the inside of the zip pouch.

I'd like to see something similar to that, maybe the optional makes could be similar to the bino pouch where you can have either a flap over the rounds or a zippered pouch. I like the zippered pouch so hold my laminated dope cards and small allen keys as well as my ammo.

So my first train of thought is simple and lightweight for sheep hunting. I don't have a diret use for a zippered pouch, and could prove cumbersome when ripping for shells to reload. Perhaps optional stuff? I dunno.

I've never been a fan of elastic lace up systems, not saying they are bad, just that they are harder to set-up than a simple velcro strap system. Especially if your using it on several different rifles.

True, but other than a few velcro straps, like on the Eagle Industries, it's the next best thing other than a giant sheet of elastic nylon (Uncle Mikes). I've been rockin a Diamond D shell holder on my 45-70 which utilizes an elastic lace up and it has worked great.

Perhaps a bar of 1.5 cordura over the buttpad to keep it from creeping forward?

Good idea. I was thinking though, on a production basis, the velcro straps would be easier to build. The lace up system would require grommeted eyelets and take more time to produce. I was thinking about it on a small basis manufacturer, like Paul at FHF

So here's a few shots on the Diamond D I roll with. I think the basis of it can be adapted to a cordura type design with a flip over cover.

Cordura version with a ammo flap over the ammo and a velcro strap over the butt to stop forward creep would be nice.

Here's my rig. Rifle is currently at the smith so no gun porn to go along with it. My eagle stock rig with padded cheekrest. It came with ammo loops outside. I sewed loop velcro on the inside and added Red Tac ammo cards. I can swap the card out with a full card at the range or in the field. Red Tac ammo cards have hook velcro on them.

Something like that from Paul at FHF would be the shizzle. I would change the zipper to go from front to rear, get rid of the ammo loops on the outside and make a pouch for .308 to 30-06 like mine, then a larger size with the same method for the magnums.

If you wonder why I used small velcro squares , its all the store had at the time where I'm at, its a remote area of Alaska. I was lucky they even had that!

Its much better than the way i used to use, used to just have the plastic ammo cards that came with federal ammo. Those red tac cards are they way to go for ammo management with a bolt gun.
