I was out in the woods today shooting at squirrels with my tiger American rimfire. When I got that gun I just put a vortex crossfire 2-7 rimfire scope I had in it. In the trees I was noticing how shitty that’s cope really is.

I want to get something a bit better but nothing crazy, just a set and forget rimfire specific scope. It Dosent need to be anything special, even a vortex would probably be fine for this particular rifle.

Is the diamond back a good upgrade from the crossfire? I have a tract scope on my other 22. It’s good but I’m not hooked on it. What should I look at for a 2-7 or 3-9? Hawk, Athlon, Bushnell, vortex, leupold???

Thanks!

Faced with a similar thought on a 10/22, I decided to take the leap and try the SWFA 2.5-10 UL rimfire model. Haven’t tested it a ton yet, but seems to fit the bill. 50 yd parallax from factory and etc. Not like looking through an S&B or anything (ha) but I think it’ll work even in shady timber.

I forgot about that one. That’s worth looking into, thanks!

Good luck finding the UL in stock, but I’ve got a couple on rimfires and they’re pretty good for that. @gr8fuldoug had the Sightrons on sale recently, I grabbed a 32 mm version pretty cheap for a 10/22. Like it so far, only grip is magnification ring is a little thick so it takes more real estate than the SWFA UL.

I don't usually worry to much about parallax, but I had a SWFA BDC on a 22 which has the parallax set I think at 150 yards and it was a problem for the 22 with small targets (ground squirrels). I'd say make sure to get the rimfire for a rimfire (rimfire is just a plain crosshair and I wanted some hashes in the scope for longer shots). I know you were looking at variables, but I really like the SWFA 6X as a rimfire scope, I have one on the .22 that I shoot the most and it works really well for me.

I like a 6x to 8x for squirrel hunting. I don’t want something that looks like the Hubble mounted on my little CZ 457s.

Since I don’t have to worry about tracking, I use old Leupold fixed 6x or new 2-7x33 on my rimfires. If you look around, you can find the second hand ones in good condition for about $200. Plenty of clarity for squirrel hunting.

But that SWFA ultralight would also work.

I went from the crossfire rimefire to the diamond back rimfire, and it is a notable improvement. That said, I have been looking at other options for a while as well. But, parallax is usually the deal breaker for most other lighter scope.

What's your budget? I have a fixed 6 power Zeiss that I bought used on a Marlin model 60. Also have a Trijicon LPVO on a .17 HMR that works great.

I don’t know, ~ 300 bucks, I’d stretch it a bit for something worth it or spend less if I got something decent.

Remember this is just for hunting and plinking, I’m not trying to dial or make long shots with this, the rifle is just shooting CCI quiet out of it so it’s not something that needs a ton of magnification.

The biggest feature I’m looking for is something with just a bit of low light ability, I’m not expecting anything amazing, just looking to upgrade from my crossfire 2-7 rimfire scope.

I use a Redfield on my full size 10/22 and it's been a great scope. Currently in a DNZ mount but I think I'm going to put a pic rail on it just for tinker value.

I'll probably get some hate for this but mu favorite scope for rimfire is the burris drop tine rimfire scope. Can get them off Amazon for 130. Ive tried alot of scopes on .22s and I like them so much they are on all my rimfire rifles

I have 2 Muellers on my 457s. They are 8.5-25 x 44, I got them from MidWay a few years ago. Darn nice scopes, granted they are made in chinksville but what isn't.

Mueller APV or a Leupold Rimfire scope gets my vote. Happy enough with both. The APV 10 years ago was an awesome deal but now days they do seem a little less awesome.

I still like an older 3-9 vx-II, that is one of my favorite scopes.

Also snagged a burris fullfield e1 a lil while ago. Thats actually a nice scope. Would prefer a lil thinner reticle but for sure not a dealbreaker

I've got a Mueller APV on a .22 as well and it works just fine. I bought it a while back but it was stupid cheap. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the thin crosshair reticle.

Good little scope for a 22. Call Cameraland and they'll take care of you.
