Welcome to Rokslide’s 2020 Best Youth Hunt Photo Contest! This is the first year of the contest, and we are looking forward to some great entries that show the next generation of hunters out in the field. I have been working with Robby Denning and Steve Rude, the owner of Western Edge Gear (a Rokslide sponsor) to bring this contest to you and your youth hunter. Western Edge Gear has generously offered a complete youth pack with accessories to the photo that wins first place. The grand prize consists of a Bullion Butte package, complete with water bottle holder, gun bearer, accessory pouch, and reversible blaze orange panel pouch – a package total of over $450.

I will be reviewing and testing this exact setup with my son and daughter leading up to their Arizona elk hunt. The live review thread is here: https://www.rokslide.com/forums/thr...-pack-test-and-review-updated-9-18-20.187105/

After completion of the live review and test, the winner will receive the complete tested youth package!

The winning photo will be judged on the following criteria and rules:
1. WOW Factor. Is it a great photo that grabs the viewer? This takes into account lighting, color, uniqueness, etc.
2. Composition. How is the photo arranged and balanced – is there too much or too little of the background/foreground, animal, subject, etc?
3. Animal size. This is not a biggest animal contest, but a best photo contest that captures your youth hunter in the field. In this case, the focus is on the youth hunter, not necessarily the animal – but if two pictures are equal, generally the more impressive animal will win the tie-breaker.
4. Must be a photo of your youth hunter in the field during the 2020 season (1 August -10 December 2020), involved in any kind of hunting – waterfowl, small game, big game, etc. The youth hunter must be 17 or younger during the 2020 fall hunting season.
5. Only one entry is allowed per member.
6. Finalists will be selected by Rokslide Staff, and the winner will be selected by Rokslide Members.
7. By posting photos on this thread, you agree to let Rokslide and Western Edge Gear use the photos in promotional material without compensation.
8. Any international winner is responsible for border tax, custom fees, excessive postage fees, etc.

This doesn't really meet the criteria.... But I wanted to share... Startem young! Good luck everybody really excited to see all these photos. Nothing like getting a kid hunting, I was lucky enough to have my first child, a beautiful girl in may. I haven't been very successful yet but so far her favorite sound is a elk bugle and we've got surprisingly close and if her mom and I aren't successful this year hunting as a small family these will still be the best hunting memories I could ask for.

Thanks man! It was hard to decide what picture to share but I thought this embodied the year well so far... It's amazing what an extra 15lbs adds up front after a couple miles hoping kifaru makes a baby carrier soon!(probably not a wise business decision) Haha that being said this is a ergobaby carrier and it is bomb proof so far haha

I have two kids can I submit a photo for each of them?

One entry per member, but all you Gotta do is create another account for one of the kids and you can post that way. Makes it easier for us to judge. Thank you.

I guess the second photo is the 'official entry' but it's hard to convey the story of that experience in just one image. It was a great day for my 13 year old daughter but probably even moreso for her very proud dad.

I had to edit these into one photo. This is my 3 year old little boy, Cole. He has made elk sounds with his mouth since he was around a year old. He'd look at Bugle magazine and cow call and bugle at the pictures when he could barely even talk.

The evening of opening day we took my two boys out hunting with us for my mom's LE Utah tag. The elk were going crazy and Cole was bugling at them. Its hard to see, but he has a piece of pool pump hose for a bugle. He called this bull up out of the draw below us. He was out about 300 yards pacing the top of the ridge but the bull wouldn't leave the cows or the safety of the private property. It was still a very fun and cool experience and both of my boys loved hearing and seeing the elk.

Finally got him his hunting license this year. It was cool to observe him in action at this ambush point we sat on for rabbits. Leafy suits backed up into the scrub oaks. He was about 35yds away from my sit. It was either the 2nd or 3rd rabbit... when I saw him slowly raise up his rifle onto the sticks, and I hadn't seen anything yet... was one he could only see from his sit location... I was like "Ahhp... he's dialed in! somethin' 'bout to die!"

After the shot... was awesome watching him walk over to wherever it was... he had to look around in the low rabbit brush for a bit there... then when he found it and he turned to me and excitedly raised up a thumbs up... all while remaining silent. I couldn't have been more proud!

And... as I'd shown him already at the house... I made him harvest the meat out there in the field....

"Only 12.5 miles to go" Josh Horner 12 yrs old first stone sheep harvest

Full disclosure: This picture is the opening day of stone sheep season August 1, it falls outside the time frame you set-up. Any chance you can include sheep season in the contest parameters?
