RRS Anvil + Spotter Question

For years, I’ve used my RRS Anvil setup for mule deer hunts by putting an arca on the bottom of a compact fluid head for my Swaro ATX, and then being able to quickly pop it off and use the tripod for rifle shots.
This year, however, I’ll also be doing a backcountry elk hunt where weight will be critical. So I picked up a RRS TFTC-24L anvil as the 34 can get cumbersome.

Has anybody used the a RRS anvil setup with a spotter directly attached? How’s that working for glassing/panning/etc? I’m trying to avoid the extra bulk and weight a fluid head would bring.

Thanks.

I for one cannot do ball heads for glassing. I’ve tried but it doesn’t work for me. Seems subjective though as many can. Only way to know is for you to try it.

I typically tell people that the anvil 30 is doable but not ideal with a spotter. Depending on your preferences, a panning clamp might make a big difference for you.

Looks like an interesting lightweight compromise. May try this out. Thanks.

I’ve been using the Anvil to glass with binos and spotter. It’s not my favorite but it is doable.
