so im looking for a pack to wear on long high country runs. the camelback one ive been using bounces too much for my liking and doesnt carry more than 10lbs comfortably. looking for something that rides well and can hold 15-20lbs without bouncing all over. anyone use something like this?

Check out ultimate direction vests, I have the wasp and pleased with it. They have a huge line of packs though and comfortable in my opinion.

I use my E&E but you might not like how that bounces, its kind of like a camelback. Although I can really tighten the E&E up on my back

Id find something small, with a waist belt.

FTF, I see where you are coming from. From my experience there is an x shaped relationship between running comfort of a pack and the carrying capacity. Finding the right compromise can be tough.

What I am currently using is a Badlands Reactor.
Yeah there is some bounce, but the waist belt alleviates some of that.

I can tie on a rain jacket and have 100 oz of water, 6 hours worth of snacks, along with my headlamp, and a pair of socks.
Truth be told, I can pack more weight in it than I want to be RUNNING with. Hence my look at a running vest...

Similar to the Reactor is the Eberlestock Mini-Me. 3L, enough room for a lightweight change of clothes and food, waistbelt option, and is an awesome upland bird vest on top of it. But I'm sure there's some bouncing similar to the Reactor.

I highly recommend the E&E but you'll only get a 2L in the pouch. It hold a ton and with the xray straps is super comfy.

Ill second the E&E. You will only get a 2l in the pouch between the bag that holds the shoulder straps when not in use. But you can fit a 3l in the main bag with room to spare.

The E&E with 20lbs will bounce, but 20lbs is a lot to run with. Id say with what you said you carry you will get very little if any bounce. You can really tighten up the straps on the E&E. To the point that's its tight on your back. It gives you a lot more room for the stuff you carry as well.

I have always used camelbak packs for biking and running but this year ill only be using the E&E.

For reference mine has the standard straps, not the xray... that might change how tight you can get it because of how long they are. The standards are very comfortable though.

Yes it's fairly smooth. I like it. I've never put that much weight in it or alot of stuff. Usually my phone, Id and sometimes a pocket pistol. There is alot of room for stuff. Too much room in my opinion for myself but it is a great pack. Nathan's makes good stuff as well.

The Tara does well running. The harness is awesome and the pack stays glued to the center of your back. I wouldn't carry 3L of water in it though. Get a filter bottle and refill along the way.

If you're running, not hiking, then my two favorites and best sellers are the Camelbak Marathoner vest and Ultimate Direction AK or SJ vest. I've done 10 hour runs using these packs and you shouldn't be carrying more than some water, food and an 'oh $h!t' jacket.
