Sabot engagement

I have a Cva Optima and am getting ready for a fall elk hunt. Attached is a photo of the sabots I’ll be shooting and the rifling engagement. Does this look appropriate for engagement?

These are no excuses sabots. Yellow 350gr boat tail .45 in a .50 sabot, blue 300gr flat base .40 in a .50 sabot. Yellow took more pressure to get down the muzzle. There is defiantly daylight visible, but the sabots carts only have contact with the rifling.

In most cases I say that loading a bullet in a sabot should take about 25-30 lbs of pressure to get them down the bore. The big thin is the sabot needs to grip the bullet tight so it will get the required rotation up the bore.

How does it shoot? Keep in mind that the sabot is elastic, and it doesn't take the rifling like a lead bullet does. Meaning, there will be daylight. The sabot engraves after the powder goes off and forces it to.

So, what you see is normal with a plastic sabot.

I'd say that what you have is good if it loads fine, and you can load a second shot without swabbing and not have to hammer it down the barrel.

Shoots pretty darn good. Shot three shot groups, but averaged 1.5” at 100. My best group was 1” at 200 yards. Also shot to 300, with 4.5” groups.

100 gr of blackhorn and 350gr .45 cal sabots. 1,830fps. If anyone’s wondering drop at 300 yards was about 4’! 4.7 mil adjustment.
