School me on 280 Rem.

Been looking at 280 Remington, how do you guys who have one think it stacks up against the 6.5 prc. I see Savage has the new Ultralite at less than 6 lbs. But it is a AI . I'm kinda of looking for one and done.

I have a rem and AI. killed everything from bighorn sheep to bison with them. One big drawback is factory ammo for either is quite limited. If you don't hand load or want to buy ammo by the case when it's available, go PRC, it's a hell of a round too

As far as comparing to the PRC, its tough for a cartridge released in the 1950's to win in the LR hunting game, but it will reach out with good bullets.

I have a 280 in a Forbes 24B and love it. Very accurate and loves a great deal of different powders. 140 Grain TTSX will stack on top of each other.

There is no reason to buy a new production 280 vs a 280AI.
- I have found it much easier to find 280AI ammo vs regular 280.
- I had never seen a 280 box on the shelves until recently.
- 280 REM factory ammo can be fired through a 280 AI barrel
- reloading to full 280AI velocities is not required.
