Last week I stumbled into a deal I couldn’t turn down on a beater pre 64 model 70 westerner in 264 win mag. It needs a scope, trying to keep it simple and classic, I’ll likely restore the rifle or rebarrel down the road. Thinking something like a 4.5-14x40 VX3i. Any other recommendations or scopes I’m overlooking? Bonus points for gloss finish but it seems they don’t make new scopes like that any more.

Leupold will finish most of there scopes any way you like through the Custom shop. Could check it out? Other wise maybe vxII 4-12×40 would look nice in gloss finish also. And the old standby 3-9×.......

You nailed it on the Leupold and if just big game hunting a Leupold VX3 3.5-10 x 40 will handle it in my opinion. Nice old rifle.

Gloss finish adds $250 to the Msrp from the custom shop, a vx3i in gloss came out to around $1k. Been scouring eBay and gunbroker for an older vari-x iii, but maybe I’ll just deal with a matte scope. I’ve got a couple Vx3i’s and love them.

I’ve got a 3.5-10x40 cds VX3i on a 300 win mag tikka, but I think I want a little more top end magnification with the 26 inch barreled 264. Keeping with the open country/plains rifle idea. Top end in the 14-16 range would be ideal.

I think the Vx3i 4.5-14 is a good choice as well! Or maybe a swaro 3-18 z5 or nightforce nxs 3-15 or shv 4-14. Although they are all more expensive than the Vx3i. Lots of choices

Trying to keep the scope under $600 or so. Would be hard for me to justify a swaro on a rifle I paid $250 for hahaha the 4.5-14 vx3i 30mm tube with side focus and CDS is $599.99. Not gloss but it’s kind of an ugly duckling rifle to begin with so I think it’ll be alright.

Pig hunter I have that exact scope on my old four digit Sako L61 264 Win Mag. I really like this scope/rifle combo as this is my rifle for packing in and out of the mountains.
I bought my scope brand new at Whitaker’s in Kentucky for waaaay less than your budget. I live about 45 minutes away from there so I drop in regularly.

I have seen a few deals recently, including Camofire, for the Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42 for just under $600. I bought one for my 6.5 Creedmoor.

Maybe an older Leupold fixed 6x that you can dial?
I did find a gloss Vari X II 4-12x40 with mil dots, but the price those old scopes go for is nuts. For $100 more I can get a brand new 4.5-14 vx3i with CDS. I want a little more power than 6x for this one.

Available now in the classified adds is a Leupold VX-5 HD 2.5X10X42 with a 30mm tube for $500. Might be a good fit on the rifle and in the budget if you can only stand the mat finish.

That is a pretty good deal, but I’m looking for something with a little more top end power, in 12-16 range.
