I am getting ready to put a new scope on my Remington HS Precision 5R 223. I will use the rifle primarily for fun (not competition) target shooting, perhaps out to 500 yards. I want to piddle with dialing for the first time in my life, though I don't need exposed turrets. I don't care whether it's FFP or SFP. I have very little experience with FFP. The rifle may get used for an early morning or late afternoon deep woods blind rifle on rare occasion, though I do have other options for that. The rifle will be pretty well babied. I don't have enough experience with the various reticles to know what I don't like.

Help me sort things out. I am confident in all of the merchants other than BH Photo. Anything else in this general category I should consider? Please don't recommend anything that is discontinued and no longer in stock. It's baffling how often that happens. It also happens with regularity that someone recommends a scope that stays in an almost perpetual out of stock status (SWFA and Tract) so spare me those recommendations as well. Don't be afraid to supply links to anything you recommend. No scopes that say Made In China on them.

Here's the not so short short list of contenders.

From Doug at Cameraland for $499 https://cameralandny.com/shop/brand...fe08-0139-5b7a-00163ecd2826?variation=3072541

From Sport Optics for $570 https://www.sportoptics.com/meopta-optika-6-3-18x50-653641.html

From Natchez SS for $428 https://www.natchezss.com/sig-sauer...-dev-l-moa-side-focus-0-25-moa-adj-black.html

From Natchez SS for $619 https://www.natchezss.com/sig-sauer...-reticle-levelplex-0-1-mrad-lr-tur-black.html

From Natchez SS for $439 (I have this scope's little brother and know I love the reticle and optics) https://www.natchezss.com/burris-ve...-ballistic-e2-reticle-rfp-matte.html?___SID=U

From BH Photo for $529 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1476472-REG/sig_sauer_sot46111_6_24x50_tango4_side_focus.html

The Sightron S-TAC FFP's are made in the Philippines and seem like a perfect fit for you

  • Tactical Turrets
  • Easy to set Zero Stop
  • Zact-7 Revecoat Multicoating for excellent light transmission
  • Exclusive ExacTrack Windage and Elevation adjustment system
  • First Focal Plane Reticle
The reticle size changes with magnification setting. Reticle values remain constant in relation to your target.

Just wondering why the trepidation with BH Photo? I've had nothing but positive experiences in the past with them. Only vendor on your list I haven't used is Sport Optics, and I used to live about 20min from NatchezSS and picked stuff up from them when I was a dealer in person.

Cameraland NY has 0 showing. https://www.bbb.org/us/ny/old-bethpage/profile/photography-equipment/camera-land-inc-0121-1410

Natchez SS has 7 showing. https://www.bbb.org/us/tn/chattanooga/profile/catalog-shopping/natchez-shooters-supplies-0483-8138

Sport Optics has 0 complaints showing. https://www.bbb.org/us/la/hammond/profile/sporting-goods-retail/sport-optics-llc-0835-18001929

The tenor of the replies to BH Complaints leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth as well as the sheer volume.

Doug, I saw you pumping up the Burris XTR in another thread. That sale you have on them is OUTSTANDING. Saw they are made in the USA and just ordered one.
