Just completed my PRC trifecta and having trouble figuring out which scope to put on which rifle.

Seekins Element in 7PRC
Fierce Carbon Rogue in 300PRC
Tikka T3x Lite Roughtec in 6.5 PRC

Leupold VX5HD 3x15x44
Leupold VX6HD 3x18x44
Vortex Strike Eagle 5x25x56

I am planning on replacing the Vortex with either an NX8 4-32 or another Leupold VX??. Looking for help in suggesting which scope I should put on which rifle.

Take a look at the scope eval threads and you will get a good idea of which scopes tend to be reliable and which ones tend to not be reliable.

I get that. I am looking to see how people would position the ones I have on the rifles I have on which rifles.

Going to throw some things at the wall to see what sticks since you didn’t provide your intended uses for the three rifles.

Forget the Strike Eagle.

7 PRC - The One to Rule Them All
For the cost of a new VX6HD you can get a demo NX8. Depending on your ammo choice, you now have a solid and reliable setup that can be used to hunt most things in this world.

300 PRC - Elk Killer
Put the VX5HD on it as this rifle would be used to kill elk sized game or larger at distance.

6.5 PRC - Deer Killer
Put the VX6HD on it as this rifle would be used to kill deer sized game at distance.

That’s what I’d do if these were my only options.

I personally would sell those Luepolds and Strike Eagle buy demo NX8s, Credos, TenMiles, or even the RS1.2s. Each rifle would get a specific scope that best aligns with the intended purpose of the rifle.

I would position them in the classifieds. With these being closer to "magnums" than not, and the deficiency of those scopes, all three setups are a "why won't my rifles shoot" post in the making.

You'd be much better served getting one quality rifle scope and moving it around as needed, than having three full faulty setups.

I'd set them all up with a bonded pic rail, and use the 6.5 as my primary everything. The 7 would get setup next with the same scope, as, (shocker) an everything rifle. The 300 I'd leave in the safe and not put a scope on...

Sndman, do you not like the VXHD line? So far they have performed well for me. I have read the drop test stuff and while concerning I haven’t had those issues. I am looking for an NX8 as my next scope but haven’t used one yet.

Most of this is for hunting. I used the 300 for my moose. So far the 7 for some hogs. And just got the 6.5.

Take a look at the eval threads that I previously mentioned. You can sell your existing scopes for minimal loss and buy better quality scopes for minimal, if any, additional cost.

Not sure how I can sell a VX5 or 6 for similar cost of NX8? I would be interested....

The cost of a NIB VX5 ranges from about $1200-$1300 so sell it a bit under. This puts you in the price range of Trijicon Credos, Trijicon Tenmiles and and the Maven RS 1.2.

The cost of a NIB VX6HD (gen1) ranges from about $1600-$1800 so sell it a bit under. This puts you in the ball park for either a demo NX8 2.5-20 or a NX8 4-32.

Can potentially make more money on the sale of the Leupold's and/or save more on the purchase of the other scopes if you are willing to hussle, make actual phone calls to ask for the best price, taking advantage on classifieds, etc.

Go with what makes the most sense for you and how to plan to use the rifles.

Lose the Leupolds and buy Trijicon Tenmiles or Credos. NF good also. You might even take a look at Leica Amplus. All better choices than a Leupold, IMO.

They don't fare well I'm the testing here.

In the kindest of ways, you strike me as a buy to get better rather than a try to get better shooter. There's nothing an NX8 can do to improve your results, and it's very likely not the tool for your job. Name dropping a scope model or brand isn't going to elevate your results.

Again, I'd buy one scope as inexpensively as possible ($400 would do), and swap it between rifles. Spend the money you make off of selling the three scopes you have now on ammo, and go shoot.

THEN you will be more educated on what you actually need in an aiming device, and will have some preferences for the wants beyond needs.

I would put the 3x18 on the 7prc, the 3x15 on the 6.5prc and the 5x25 on the 300prc. I would replace the 5x25 with another 3x18 since you asked but for me I wouldnt use the 300 and would favor the 7prc and use the 6.5 as a back up rifle.

Thanks. That is what I have planned so far. I got the 300 PRC for Moose/Bear last year. And while I like it and it has been a great shooter, I can't see picking it up over the 7PRC right now. When I got to my moose hunt, my guide was telling me that most the natives that have been shooting moose their entire lives use nothing even close to a 300. He himself has been shooting moose with a .243 since he was a kid. The outfitter had recommended and wanted me to bring a 300 or 30.06 at minimum.

From the opinions I have seen, I am guessing if I pick up an NX8, I will put it on the 7, and then put the 6HD on the 6.5, leaving the 300 for whatever scope it gets. Have a 375 h&h that will need an optic as well, but had planned a little different route for it.

In all kindness, the more I read your post, the more you strike me as a pompous forum know it all. I shoot plenty. I hunt more. Certainly not a range queen. I do like nice gear, and not afraid to get peoples opinions. All I did was ask an opinion. yet you interject asshattery in here like you know me. How many people have you turned in at your range this week for going 1 mph over the posted speed limit.... or looking at their rifle too long when the range was cold? All good though.

@fngTony can I get an upgrade to forum asshat since we already have a forum jerk?

Although I am the new Chairman of the Board at the gun club, I didn't turn anyone in yet this week.

I didn't offer an opinion against nice gear, I did offer an opinion that functional gear should top those rifles and I am glad you weren't afraid to receive it.

Based on his EAD comment you could be the forum Eat a Dicker? 😅
