Bought this base to accommodate early season fair weather hunting (each hunter in a half-open base...Could pair 2 bases for a roomy setup if foul weather really set in. I will pitch the open side facing south and east to manage windy squalls--never had an issue with afternoon weather blowing into the shelter. I would often cover my gear with a sheet of Duck brand heat-shrink window plastic (which also served as my ground cloth in the event rain did want to enter -- stuff is Tuff, cheap AND very light (better than Tyvek). The base alone can sit high as pictured, or can be set really low-profile to manage higher winds above tree line.
