sewing a pack bag

I was wanting to get some input from anyone who has made or modified their pack bag.

currently I have a bikini frame and was wanting to make a bag for it. I plan on using 500d codura just wanted to know what thread and maybe needle size I should start with. I have access to a heavy sewing machine to use. is there also certain types of seems that work better than others? Thanks

I used gutermann tera 40 and a 100/16 needle. I just used plain seams and finished the edges with binding

T70 bonded nylon thread and a #18 needle if the machine will handle it fine (most home machines will), its 10-12lb breaking strength and readily available in 4oz-16oz cones.

Thanks , I've sewn a few chair cushion covers and costumes for my kid but all that was pretty light material.
