I used my issued ALICE with external frame with an “upgraded” ilbe belt. I dont recommend it. Got a kifaru and now feel like im driving a cadillac.

Packing into northern New Mexico with about 85 lbs in the eberlestock dragonfly. That pack was tough as nails and did me good for a long time. Note my 15 lb big Agnes tent!! Haha

I have a blacktail hunt scheduled for september and have an osprey pack. Do y'all think that will be sufficient for hauling out a deer or do I need to just bite the bullet and get a hunting pack?

Plenty sufficient as long as you don't mind stuffing meat into your bag. Never bothered me, just hose it out when you get home.

I packed almost all the elk I’ve killed with a pack like this, no hip belt and no padding on shoulder straps. Until a few years ago I had no idea there was a better way. Spent 20ish years doing it this way.

one particular trip I remember I got back to camp and couldn’t even get food out of the camper cupboard for myself because I couldnt lift my arms above my head.

We need someone to do a “live hunt” with all crappy cheap equipment. May need censored, but I’m sure they can get it done haha.

REI XT85 backpack

used this for years until upgrading toa kifaru pack
If your packing 50 pounds or under for under an hour and a half it was actually a great pack.

First timer here. You asked for a JanSport here it is. Didn't get a harvest but handled 6 days of gear (~55lbs.) plenty well. Do I get bonus points or a deduction for the rainbow patches?

Cabelas minimalist frame pack that I bought for 2020 season. I packed out 2 bulls with this piece of junk. Making the switch to Exo!

The real question should be "How many years in a row have you used a sh!%%y pack before you upgraded?" Seems the worse the pack the quicker the upgrade. Also if you used it for 5+ years can you truly consider if a bad pack?

Not a pic with an animal but I was cleaning out my shop yesterday and wanted to bring this thread back to life.

A real gem of a pack here! $100 to your door if you too would like a real hunting experience 🤣. That hip belt make we wince even today.

That's my pack!!! Same color even. I still have it.

Packed a bull out with backstraps and neck meat in the bag, head and horns strapped to the back and dragging both hinds behind. I have never been so exhausted in my life.

Back then that was considered a good pack.
