I have a short barrel 338RCM. It started out with a 20" carbon barrel and I was getting 2735fps with a 230gr ELD-X. I then cut it down to 16" and I'm getting 2600fps with a 225gr CE Raptor. It's a lightweight rifle built on a Tuebor Ti action. I also run a stock Weatherby accumark in 338-378 and shoot 280gr Barnes LRX at 2950fps and 300gr accubonds at 2750fps. I could probably push both of those loads a fair bit faster but I stopped when I found excellent accuracy. The Wby is running a 26" barrel so throwing a suppressor on it would be absurd for hunting. I built the RMC with the intent of running a lightweight suppressor but haven't bought one yet. The RCM pefroms really well in short barrels.

Like to know more on that RCM build.

All those seem like a waste of powder in a 22”. As mentioned the 338 rcm seems what you are looking for. As you reload the 338 Sherman Short would also be efficient in a short rifle. Can also go the 338 wsm wildcat but would be best on a med/long action, then you could also go 338-06, or even AI that for a more efficient cartridge in a short .338 cal rifle.

what action and suppressor? Will this be a dedicated can for the rifle?

Found this picture- makes me want to build a 338 😆 is missing the 33Nos. I guess for you it will come down to what bullet at what speed? What’s your max OAL? From what I have gathered the brass you can find is most important- many said go 338 Lapua MagAI

Just picked up an 18" 33 nosler barreled action on thurs. Will run a 338 ultra on it. Hope is to be able to run bullets at 24" win mag velocities. It'll be awhile before I get it stocked, but I can try to remember to update this thread with velocities.

I’m in a similar boat, I’d like to build a big 338 but I don’t want a 28-30 inch barrel like most Edges. Been thinking of doing a 338-300 PRC imp. Seems like it might be just about the right case capacity for a 24-26 inch tube. I’ve reached out to Rich Sherman about it as hes already done the 300 Sherman magnum. Send it to Shawn Carlock for a +p throat and see if Steve Davis could whip up some Absolute Hammers in the 260-285gr range. Would fit in a 4.000 Wyatt’s box with room to spare and use a normal magnum bolt face unlike the Norma/Lapua cases. Call it the 338 Rok.
Edit: Sherman has one in testing currently.

I just had Dallas Lane build me a switch rig with two proof barrels in 300 Norma Mag 35° Improved in a 22" and a 338 Warthog (Robert Gradous-design 338 Norma Mag 40° Improved) in a 26", but I'd be interested in cutting another 338 Warthog in a 22" if I could get a deal on a barrel. Should push a 250gr Berger north of 3k if you stomped on it with the right powder.

Picked up my 338 Norma from Snowy Mountain Rifles a few weeks ago :) So there's my vote!

246 gr Hammer Hunters @ 2944 fps from a 24" barrel. Was hoping for 2800-2900 with 250 gr weight class bullets.

Doc89, I want to get hold of you about your Hoyt Ventum but can't PM you yet. Are you able to send me a message so I can reply to it?
