Has anyone set up hunting arrows for a youth or women hunter with a short draw and lower draw weight?

My Son has a 26" draw and is pulling 42 lbs right now, hopefully by the season he will be pulling 50 lbs (he's growing fast and getting stronger every day)

So what have you guys used in the past and was it effective on game?

I have a friend who's daughter is hunting with a bow around 25" and 35# or so. Regular old pink black eagle arrows, older fixed blade wasp broadhead. Nothing out of the ordinary or special. Shot a doe at 22 yards and had pass thru even tho it was flirting with the shoulder joint area. She ain't going to be shooting to 45 yards or anything, but close range treestand hunting it works.

Cool

It just seems funny when we talk about 450 or 500 grain arrows and FOC and speed from our 70 lbs bows. Then I try to set up some arrows for my son and we are talking sub 400 grains and 200 ish fps.

Yeah, I think we tend to get wrapped up in things. Deer aren't bullet proof. Good fixed head, accurate and forgiving setup. I wouldn't be worried about pushing his weight up, he is going to be better to be accurate and comfortable. I'd say get him to 45#, it should be gravy then.

Moose, stone sheep, bear, and mountain goats are on the menu. I won't push him past what he's comfortable with though.

Just switched up my wife’s arrows again. I now have her in an Axis 400 match with 50gr brass and 100gr head. Comes in a little over 400gr cut down to 25”. She’s at a 25” draw and pulling around 58# currently.

Last year my wife was shooting 40lbs and her arrow was right around 350 grains. We didn’t focus on foc or anything and mostly wanted decent speed so she had decent trajectory. We threw on a 2 blade magnus stinger and she blew through a buck antelope at 56 yards. I built 3 arrow setups for different game for her depending on what animals and where we are hunting

IMO if you run a high quality head and decent weight you should be set. A sharp head is huge.

Girlfriend is shooting BE Renegade 400s with a 125 IW head at around 420 grains. She is really liking them.

Those aren't the game animals I was thinking of. Bear aren't terribly hard to kill, but they don't bleed out well. I'd want to try to get a pass thru on them for tracking.

Thanks everyone. Going to give these a try.

Easton powerflight 500 125 grain head with a 40 grain insert. Total weight will be right around 400 grains.

Take a page from the trad playbook:

2 blade BHs penetrate effortlessly and turn even light setups into killing machines.

Personally I would bump up arrow weight to a min of 10 GPP or more.
