Shot new gun...

Finally had the chance yesterday to shoot my new Bergara 300 wm. Pretty sure I like it.

Pictured are first 6 shots with barrel cleaned between shots. I realize that this may be pointless, but why not? I had time to kill and manufacturer suggests doing it, so...

Anyway, I imagine she'll tighten up a little bit after a few more go down the tube, when I stop cleaning between shots, and once I find what hunting round it likes best. Was just shooting the cheapest stuff I could find yesterday.

Speaking of hunting round. Go to moose round for 300 wm is...... ???

While some may be as good, none are better than a 180 gr Partition, particularly with the protected point.
That assumes, of course, that your rifle is accurate with them.

Went back this past Sunday and took my time at 100 off tailgate again. Not a bad 3. Still have 5 or 6 in first box.

First shot was the up and left. Just leaning a new gun. Current gun and I have 13 years together with an amazing track record in the field. This gun more precise, I'm certain. Just need to keep at it until you have the same confidence level.

That’s a shooter man. 300 win will do it no problem. There’s lots of good bullet options out there in .308 caliber.

IF a person had the time and inclination a Swift Aframe for moose might be a top choice

What say you?

Also need to come up with whitetail round that it likes. My 270wsm with 140 accubonds has taken about 60 deer and dozen hogs or so in FL, AL, KS, KY, GA and TX. It is, of course, a great deer round, but I'd like to spend some time with new gun in the field this year and next prior to AK. That being said any recommendations for small to average whitetail?

your 270 WSM/140 is a very good combo

No doubt. Need to come up with something to deer hunt with using the 300. Just want to get familiar with it in hunting situation. I've been known to kill some pretty small deer at point blank out to 300.

in THAT scenario the 7mm-08 would be a stand out

I reload 180 Accuabonds for my 300 WM, and would not hesitate to use them on a whitetail. Anything lighter than a 180 gr might be at a velocity that hydro-shocks the meat.

you cannot kill something "TOO" dead - Use the 300
