Should I replace the stock on inherited rem 742 woodsmaster

Inherited from uncle, late 60's model. Forestock had a half inch of wood split off one side and butt has significant abuse from riding in truck (MT)

Should I invest in both pieces, leave as is, or try to find a match for the front.

Thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Would like to use it, not keep it in the closet

I would fix it up with new pieces. I have a newer version of that rifle and love it. Be careful if you want to scope it or not. The newer synthetic stock has a much higher comb than the original wood ones that makes using open sights a little difficult. Not sure if a newer wood one has the higher comb too.

I’d leave it as it is. It’s character and a story. Those are neat guns, killed my very first big game animal with a borrowed iron sighted 742 in 30-06 when I was a kid.
